Giethoorn : A village with no roads!


Giethoorn is a walking city, also known as "Venice of the North" or "Venice of the Netherlands." This small town of 2,500 inhabitants located in the Dutch province of Overijssel.
Giethoorn is a car-free village because it has no roads. The main streets are replaced by canals and the houses are connected to the other shore by small wooden bridges. Everything is beautifully maintained, particularly those houses with thatched roofs.
All transports are done by water, over one of the many canals. There are also cycling path in this old village.
Giethoorn is an internationally well-known tourist attraction in the Netherlands, the visitors are welcome to enjoy the beauty of sceneries on a Whisper Boat (a special electric powered boat, which makes no noise).
